Get in Touch, I'd love to hear from you
I am a Belfast-based artist working primarily in acrylic and mixed media, creating expressive, contemporary artworks that celebrate the beauty and emotion woven into everyday life. My practice is rooted in intuition and curiosity. Rather than beginning with a rigid plan, I allow each piece to unfold naturally through layers of colour, texture, and mark-making. I’m endlessly fascinated by how shapes interact, how tones shift against one another, and how a single gesture can change the entire mood of a painting.
I was born and raised in Killeshandra, County Cavan, and the landscape there continues to live quietly within my work. The changing skies, rolling fields, soft lakeshores, and the deep sense of place that comes with growing up in rural Ireland all shaped my earliest creative impressions. Even now, I find myself returning to those feelings — the stillness, the expansiveness, the subtle drama of light across land — and translating them into abstract forms and expressive colour palettes.
Travel is another important thread running through my practice. I love exploring Ireland and venturing further afield whenever I can, often setting off in my beloved campervan to experience the island at its most raw and unfiltered. There’s something incredibly inspiring about being on the move — watching landscapes shift, noticing fleeting details, and allowing space for reflection. Those journeys bring a sense of freedom and energy to my work. The atmosphere of a windswept coastline, the quiet hum of a small town, or the layered textures of an urban wall can all find their way into my paintings in unexpected ways.
I am particularly drawn to the transformative process of layering materials. Building up surfaces with acrylic, collage elements, and mixed media allows depth and contrast to emerge organically. Some layers are revealed, others partially hidden, creating a sense of history within each piece. I love that moment when materials begin to merge and interact in surprising ways — when drips, scratches, and textures create something I couldn’t have planned but instinctively recognise as right.
At the heart of my work is a desire to evoke feeling — to capture not just what we see, but what we sense and remember. My practice is constantly evolving, reflecting both my growth as an artist and my ongoing curiosity about the world around me. Each painting is part of a larger journey of exploration, connection, and discovery, and I hope that viewers can find their own stories, memories, and emotions within the layers.
